Effect of medical technological advances on our society
Medicine has evolved in a very short time span, from ancient civilisation history of healing with the use of natural resources to the conduction of MRI and CTC scans in the modern day world. The evolution of medicine has by large had a severe impact in the increment of lifespan as well as easing pain and making life a healthier place for most human being. The increasing number of average age with a decreasing mortality rates makes me ponder over what the planet would look like in another decade. Advancement in the fields of technology to an extent where body organs once printed out would pretty much nullify any reason for death to approach the souls. In an age and era where suicide is considered to be unearthly and people charged against it are being held in contempt what would happen in a world where even the blockage of a vein or a heart attack could easily be cured by just transplant an artificially made organ. No longer will be the days where people would have to go in search of a donor of a kidney transplant whose kidney cross-matches with that of the donor.
With the involvement of Google and other multi-billion dollar industries making quick advancements in medicine that day is not far when technology will allow us to live forever- rapid advances will be made in the fields of life expectancy, alongside pursuing a goal of radical life extension.
Of the current world there is only a five percent of the population that would like to live longer than humanly possible, the remaining ninety five believe they would prefer to live and end their life in a rather healthy body than live in an old and deteriorated body, However, people will eventually be able to decrease the process of cellular aging which would prevent the deterioration of the body and mind the only thing that is feared by mankind if they were given the option to live forever. A cure in heart diseases and cancer with a general boost in life expectancy to a hundred and twenty years itself has the capability to double the population on the planet as per the research conducted by the institute of ethics and emerging technologies.
The advancement of AI itself has the capability to make a predictive analysis of the cell structure and their aging process, which crosses me across to a question, will death be made optional to the rich?
Radical life extensions are under development, thus growth in population size is inevitable, the planet is said to have already reached its peak of sustainable development, and an increase in the number of souls could be hazardous to which we are adding on another 200,000 every single day.
The way I see it medical advancements will leave us with a simple choice in between controlling the population growth or further rapid research in an attempt to inhabit lands across the blue planet.
